That's what happened to my Theo too. I see it often enough that I wonder if there's a common reason. Whether it's that people think hammies live longer than they do or that they don't want to explain death and dying to their children I don't know. Those are my hypotheses anyway. Maybe I'll start asking when I see adds like those and compile a list

It's sad isn't it. I wondered if it could be related to medical costs? People assuming that end of life care for a hamster is expensive so want to get rid of them before it's an issue?

Maybe in the UK that could be true, but here most people don't even consider a vet for a rodent. They're on a par with goldfish and when they get sick of them they get "flushed"

It makes me so mad, why do these people buy pets, they are living creatures that have certain needs and should be provided for.

To own any animal isn't a god given right but a privilege and should be treated as such the animal deserves respect. I detest these so called not rights who buy a pet only to treat it like an unwanted toy after a few weeks, grrrrrrrrrrr.

It's interesting that the adverts for both the hams I said I saw disappeared once I had posted the fact here... did someone on here get them or just a coincidence?

I wish I could do that too SinNyx.... Unfortunately my OH isn't too keen on the idea if I had my way I'd fill our whole house with needy animals. But apparently two is enough!!
Hats off to you though! You're doing a wonderful thing.

I know it's hard to look at those ads I try not to as I would want to rescue them all too, but my husband would kill me!

Hmm...I don't have an OH, maybe I should get myself one so I'm not so tempted by every needy ham I see
