Default I'm so lucky!

Last night I washed Elmo's wheel out as I do every night (he takes food in and wees on it, so it's mush). It's a rotastak wheel so on the outside, it comes apart and has a red part to fasten it together, well somehow I forgot to put that back on-needless to say that will be getting checked everynight on top of everything else!. Well this morning my OH comes up and wakes me saying he thinks Elmo's got out. I flew out of bed, and when I got down the outer part of the wheel was on the floor. I couldn't see Elmo anywhere...so I'm shouting his name etc, and suddenly my OH sees all his bedding moving in his top bit, so I looked and he was there, thank god.

I'm surprised he didn't go.

Think he might have been playing on it or something and it's scared him as he wouldn't come to me this morning for a treat, and just went running on the wheel for ages!..I've spoke comfortingly to him a few times this morning and now he came up to me for a treat.

I am pleased he is safe, I don't like rotastak cages they are really are not good for Syrians they don't give them enough room and don't let enough air in,

I am pleased you are going to get the hamster a better home, have a look on ebay their are normally a bargin on there, also have a look at the housing section on this site, how about a bin cage cheap, easy to do and 100 times better than rotastak

I found a bit tub/bin in Morrisons for £5. I only use it as Harry's play box at the mo but it'd be a great quick fix until you can find something better.
