Default So funny

Hi all, must say what a lovely welcome from you all, thanks. I have got to tell you the funniest thing I saw at the weekend . We cleaned Doughnuts cage out on Saturday and put him in a large card board box with lots of toys etc. My son (who is 3) was watching over him. Doughnut loved the attention. When we had finished it was time for my son and Doughnut to go to bed. When I went back into my sons bedroom, they were both flat out asleep, Doughnut though was asleep in his sand bath, he has never done that before. He looked so cute.

Aww how sweet. You should have got a piccie. In the hot weather dwarfies like to sleep in cool places like sandbaths. We give ours a ceramic tile to lie on and they will stretch flat on their tummies to cool themselves.

Default Cooling hammies

Can I ask you all how you keep your hamster cool in this muggy weather? As they are not supposed to be near a draft?

thanks

We find they adjust fine to these sort of temperatures without any need for fans etc. They tend to make a much more open nest or sleep out in the open. Place a tile in the cage for them to lie on or if it is very hot you can put the tile in the fridge for a bit to cool it. I'd only think of using cooling methods at 24C plus. Keep them shaded and have a fan in the room but not directly on the hamster. You are right about the draughts not being good.

Thats a lovely mental picture - they will both grow so quickly that it is important to hold onto those memories isn't it?

Glad Doughnut is settling in well with your family, and that son still sounds enthralled with him!
