From my experience, only my red eyed hamster appears with red eyes on photos. All black eyed hamsters appear with black eyes when flash is used also.
Carriers of the 'white-bellied' gene can be identified by their eyes, which shine with a bright-red glint when a strong light is shone into them. So these hamsters should appear with red eyes on photos when their eyes are black.
Its really interesting about the red reflex (never knew why that happened)
So it does make me wonder whether this is the case for hamsters or its Wh carriers.
