Artie makes me feel like I need more than one pair of hands! I can't win!
This time I had my camera phone (just barely), but not an extra hand to turn the light on. Okay, so he probably wouldn't have liked the light that much, and I wasn't going to use a flash, so instead I have 'autocorrected' them and compressed them. They still look a bit odd but still! Better than they were.
^^
I came across Artie exploring his whole cage a little earlier. I just stood there for a while talking to him whilst he ran up and down his ramps, and explored the part of the cage that is the ZZ2. He went down the dead-end part of the cage and then realised it was a dead end and ran so fast back to the larger area. I should probably put a tube down there so he doesn't feel so exposed.
He was clearly food hunting. Some of his old food was down in that area, and he pouched a few bits, and was pawing at the woodshavings that I still have down there. I chatted away to him and he paid me no mind. It was so nice to see such behaviour.
Back up the ramp to his mini duna and more sniffing and investigating. Clearly he was food hunting. He had pulled a tube right up against a corner so I put my hand into his cage to move it a little and he came right up to me, exactly like yesterday, and put his paws up onto my fingers to have a sniff at my hand. Awww. Clearly he was hoping for food! How could I resist? (Am I meant to resist?)
I put a little of Silver's mix onto the palm of my hand and like magic, he had a good nose and got right up onto my hand!!! The first time I tried this with such tasty food he only put his two front feet onto my hand, but this time he got right up onto my hand and nom nommed away! The first thing he did was scoff the mealworm (have I mentioned how much he loves mealworms???
)and I gave his back lots of strokes and spoke to him whilst he did this and started pouching more of the food on my hand. Again he was so gentle with me. He even properly did that fuzzball shape that they do when they're eating, balanced on their back feet as they hold food with their front paws.
Because it was clearly time for him to go back to bed I made no effort to lift him out of his cage; just having him sit on my hand eating was magic enough.
The pictures - the few steps onto my hand, the third one being him completely on my hand and happily eating, the fourth a better angle to show how pretty he is, even through the blur!
A delighted Lydia and Artie.
