Default I think "she's" a "he"!

First of all when I looked at Snowy in the shop I was told that it was a boy, then that it was a girl. My previous hamsters have 'let it all hang out' and were extremely obviously boys, so as Snowy wasn't like this, I thought 'she' must be a girl. However, now I'm handling 'her' more and watching 'her' climb, she does appear to have small, fur-covered bulges, no signs of nipples and the vents are quite far apart, so I think 'she' is a boy! Looking at Peanut - a known boy, he is also not 'well-endowed' compared with Brighteyes, Nocturne, Oliver and Shadow.

I also notice that the part of Snowy's tail under the skin is kinked, so it actually comes out and points off-centre. He's a beautiful hamster = so is Peanut.

I'm sure that Snowy knows perfectly well what sex s/he is! But sometimes it is a lot harder than other times when it is absolutely obvious.

I think that from what you've said about Snowy before that s/he is about 6 months old? Fully grown then. The differences can be more obvious when they just wake from a nice warm nest - maybe it would be an idea just to check then!

A kinked tail can be the result of a fall or other accident, or the result of a genetic defect in more 'delicate' colours such as dark greys. It doesn't cause any harm to Snowy I'm sure, and as long as you are not even thinking of breeding him, is just another facet of his individuality!

(I have to say I did smile when you described Snowy as beautiful and then had to put that Peanut is too. You are as bad as me, I feel so guilty if I praise one, and have to say something nice to all the others too)
Though I have to agree Snowy is beautiful, and so is your man Peanut!

In defence of Snowy, it's what you do with it that counts!

I didn't know there were such differences in hamsters - I have a couple of dwarves who seems to be about two-thirds testicles, enormous things... which can make climbing interesting

I just assumed they were all pretty much the same!
