Aidan, Hammy and me have been away for Easter. We went to visit some friends of ours in York. I think that Hammy enjoyed the change of scenery and he certainly enjoyed the car ride. I couldn't keep him out of his wheel on the way home but I was worried that he'd be as dizzy as a bat by the time we got there so removed it in the end, just to be on the safe side.
Aidan had lots of fun with Otis, a 1 year-old Bull Mastiff, who is an extremely loveable and child/hamster-friendly dog, although on our last day there, when they were rolling around playing on the floor, with Otis licking Aidan, Otis accidentally stood on Aidan's face and hurt his nose. It bled a bit and I've had him checked out and thankfully his nose is just swollen so I don't think he'll be doing that again in a hurry.
We did the museums, the Castle and Railway Museums and had a ride on the York Eye. We did intend going to the York Dungeon too but, after having queued for an hour, Aidan and my friend Ruth decided that it wasn't quite their cup of tea so we didn't go in
It saved me a fortune in entrance fees though, so for that I'm thankful. We went to Clifford's Tower instead and all those steps did me the world of good as I missed my exercise class last week because we went away.
We also went to a car boot sale but I didn't get chance to have a good rummage around as I lost Ruth and by the time I found her it was time to leave but I did manage to grab a warm drink during my search for her as it was really cold and windy and I needed warming up. She managed to grab a few bargains though and on the way back to the car she found a beautiful dress that someone had made and all it needed was hemming...it was beside the rubbish bin. Lucky Ruth!
We went out for a Carvery meal on Monday which was nice. I know of a nice pub just outside York which I use whenever I'm there so went there. Otis was happy as he got the leftover meat and Hammy got a bit of chicken too.
Otis took me for a few walks in the countryside and Aidan had lots of fun throwing sticks and balls for him to fetch.
All in all we had a lovely break and it's a while since we've been away so we made the most of it.
Yesterday we had an Easter egg hunt in the garden as we didn't have time to do that when we were away. Aidan and his cousin Ryan found 10 each and they both received a large egg each for their efforts.
We are going back to York this weekend as I bought a bike for Aidan's birthday and have to collect and pay for it so we're staying with our friends again, but just overnight this time.
I hope that you all had a lovely Easter too...I don't know about you lot but somehow I've managed to resist all that chocolate...succumbed to the odd mouthful but that's all...it's done wonders for my weight loss
