Only eats when I give him the food?

Hello!

Well, sometimes when i'm away for the evening my dad feeds my hamster but most of the time I come back to find he hasn't eaten anything. Then the following day when I refill his food bowl he will eat it? (I tip out the old food when I fill it up)
is there any reason as to why he only eats it when i give it to him?

Does your Dad have anything to do with your ham the rest of the time? If not it could just be an unfamiliar scent putting him off or if you spend a lot of time with him in the evening when you are there maybe he just misses you & is a bit upset by the change.
How often are you away, if it's not often he may not have a chance to get used to things being a bit different, some hams are just a lot more sensitive to any change than others!

My dad always gives him some food through the bars in the evenings which he takes and he talks to him a lot.

My dad probably feeds him like once every 2-3 weeks? if im staying at my mums house or something like that.

I do also talk to him a lot in the evening :3

a few months ago my granny had him for a week and he didnt eat any of his food but as soon as I went down there to pick him up he started eating from his bowl that he hadn't touched all week.

Does your Dad smoke? I ask because my husband does and although my hamster adores my husband if he goes to him just after a cigarette he won't go near him or anything he's touched. I agree with Cypher though that your hamster may just be a little sensitive and feels safer with you around and the routine of being fed by you.

No he doesn't!

Yeah he must just be a bit sensitive then :3 I'll make sure he has a lot of food in the days leading up to when he goes over to my grannies house for a week in a few weeks time.
