Default A picky hamster...

Hey everyone

I've tried getting my hamster to eat his alfalfa pellet things but he's having none of it, I've tried feeding him less so he has to but he wont....

I'm not keen on the idea of pellets, I know he would get bored of them if he tried them at all

What's the best way of getting fibre into my hammy?

I've grown grass that's edible for hamsters which I give him every now and then is there anything else?

Thankss

I don't think you need to worry too much if they are part of a good quality mix. He no doubt eats a few of them and enough to get what he needs from them. It just looks like they are left as there are a lot more of those in the mix! The seeds, fruits and grains in the mix provide plenty fibre for his needs

Hi.

There is a member on here who solved this problem. I thought it was a great idea. She used oats, peanut butter and the alfalfa into little biscuits. Then baked for a while.

Mush about 20 pellets with a bit of hot water. Little bit of peanut butter and oats then bake.

Cant remember the exact method but it is on here somewhere. Something like DIY embarking on hamster mash cakes.
I'm going to try them soon.

Just typed it in on the search bit and its comes up, its by hammysmom

That sounds great! Thank you!! I was reading somewhere else on here that sometimes extra vitamins are in them too depending on the mix so I really want to give this a go.

To time to find some peanut butter

My hams never seem to eat them, but in the past I used to get mine dried dandelion and herbs which seemed to do the trick. Plus a lot of fruit and veg will have vitamins and fibre in, so if you are supplementing the diet as well as feeding a good mix you needn't worry.

Plus that idea above is wicked. Definitely worth a try.

Yeah it is a great idea! going to town tomorrow to get some bits and bobs :')

If anyone has seen on ebay the packet of seeds you can buy and grow there great too. My hamster goes MAD for clover, yet to grow a 4 leaf clover though haha!
