Re: What food do you give your hammies?
I did read somewhere that bread isn't good for hamsters unless toasted, but I don't really know.
mine get harry hamster food mixed with hemp seeds. I also givce them a bits of fruit and veg most days, if I run out of fresh stuff they often get dried fruit and veg. mixed nuts and stuff onces a week. veg drops that smell of stock cubes. and they really like bordom breaker marbels. I cook egg for them every few days, or give them tofu.
baby food every so often, but they get everything else a lot so they really aren't missing out of such.
I guess thats it really, I'm sure they get more things really.

Re: What food do you give your hammies?
Is Hammy Hamster food alright for them? The reason I ask is the gertie guinea pig food is not good for guinea pigs and I think its made by the same company. The lady I got my rescue piggies from said the guinea pig version had an additive in it that was actually bad for guinea pigs! EEK!

Re: What food do you give your hammies?
Another Harry Hamster fan here although we do still have a bit of the food we got when we got Jasper, you know, the clear bags of food that you buy from the pet shop.
We have to travel an hour to get HH mix, but we'd have to travel to get any food, so it doesn't really matter on the brand, HH is the only available!
Lucky Jasper enjoys it

Its available in most pet shops (except P@H - who want to push their own brand...which has too much sugar in it!) and also Wilkinson's and Sainsbury's too. Or you can it online from most pet websites.
Its the only hamster food approved by the National Hamster Council.

Re: What food do you give your hammies?
Harry horrible hamster. Just joking. it's OK but contains lots of dark green cylinders that no small animal of mine will ever touch. Mine don't care for either of the tesco mixes either or Waggs food. Hamster delight and gerbil delight was ok but the new stuff by LINK PET - original and fruitti- mixed together seems to be the best so far as it contains very few uneatable bits in it. HH is a ripoff now its gone down to 850 gms weight from 1Kg too. Link pet original is about £1.99 and fruitti is about £2.25 - for the gay hamster in your life.... from the local petshop so is a little more expensive than HHH but it's a kg not a mean 850g.

Re: What food do you give your hammies?
I like the tesco stuff, they never leave any of it! I give the robos scrambled egg, meal worm and a tiny bit of veg whilst the syrian gets decent amounts of veg, fruit and a tiny bit of scrambled egg and meal worm. I cater for the rabbits and terrapin as well which means my kitchen is like a cafe most afternoons

What's wrong with P@H hammy food?
They get that plus fresh fruit and veg 3 times a week and I also add vitamin drops to their food too.
They also get an egg biscuit once a week too

Re: What food do you give your hammies?
A lot of people don't like the P@H food as it contains a lot of added sugar which is not good for hamsters especially dwarfs who can be prone to diabetes. You can check out the contents on the side of bags of food and decide if you consider it suitable. Things to avoid are added sugar (sometimes called fructose or maltose but still sugar) and colourants and additives. Harry Hamster also is the only food with a pre-biotic which helps maintain a healthy gut flora.
