How often?
How often do people feed dry hamster mix to their hammies?
I started off feeding daily then, last year, I switched to every other day - now I'm thinking about feeding every 3 days.
The theory behind feeding less often is that they eat more of the mix including the bits they find less palatable and, thus, get a more balanced diet.
I still feed fresh veggies or other supplements (pasta, rice, porridge etc) daily.

It depends with mine really, Chip, Dale and Ted refuse to eat anything but sunflower seeds and nuts. Minni and Belle like the green flakes, sunflower seeds and nuts. I usually fill the bowls up when their favorite bits are gone.

I am thinking exactly the same things as you Julie. I began everyday but have been feeding every other day for the last year. I was considering every 3rd day - but I don't know I'm fine with every other and everyone seems to eat everything so I may just leave it, for some reason it feels mean only doing every 3/4 days!

mine get more every 4 days ish, but its more on how much they have actually eaten and i do check their stock pile etc, to encourage them to eat it all up...though i tend to let young ones and old ones be more choosy...but i am a bit too soft on them, and it would probably be better for them if i treated them the same!

Pregnant and nursing mums and babies do get hamster mix at least every other day as well as porridge and extras. The rest only get fed every 4 days - and those that know my hamsters will know that they don't look half starved!

Mine get a good supply every 3 days and I make sure that the feed is due on cage cleaning day, so that they have to 'eat up'. I do spoil them regularly with other foods though - about every couple of days.
Of course when raising a litter, Mums and babies get dry food every day, plus supplements twice a day. I feed them breakfast before I go to work (do I get chance for breakfast? - no!) and then a main meal of babyfood/veg/Tofu/chicken/egg etc. in the evening.
growing young hamsters also get extras more regularly too.

To all of you who feed dry mix every 2-3 days, how much hamster mix do you give?
