A good diet for dwarf hamsters?

I have no idea to be honest. I feed just harry hamster which works quite well. (Adding to it unbalances it and increases the risk your ham will end up with an unbalanced diet - potentially to the extent of health problems.)
With the price that costs I'd just buy Silvers mix and be done with it really lol

I can't find any information about its ingredients or its nutritional analysis, so I can't say one way or the other whether it's a good food.

I think I'll buy Harry Hamster then. It is sold quite cheap at my local private pet shop. So your saying don't add anything to Harry Hamster, @kyrilliondaemon ?

Personally I don't. Its a fully balanced diet as it is.

Others may feel differently but thats based on "the hamsters don't eat all of it so why not give them extras?" whereas I find ours eat at least parts of all of it and I don't want to risk unbalancing the diet more than they unbalance it themselves.

Does that makes sense? Basically its all personal choice but we feel its best to not add to mixes just because of the increased risk of them having an unbalanced diet as a result.

Im with Kyrilliondaemom.

The reason why we buy hamster food is to buy a complete food which has the correct % of Protein/fat/fibre.

Once you start to add anything or take anything away then that food you brought because it was a complete balanced diet for a hamster is no longer that.

When I was mixing my own hamster food, it came down to taking 1g off a ingredient or adding 1g to the mix of another ingredient to make it correct.

So I would not personally add or take anything away from the Harry Hamster food. I would give some natural sugar free treats once a day, & a little veg three times a week

Yes, it does I think I will use meal worms as a treat, although Pepper does not seem to like them. Salt scoffs them so quickly though! I think I will buy some more seeds as treats next time too.

I'm glad it made sense. Good luck finding more treats to try, for us the issue isn't finding treats so much as finding an airtight box to store them in. One day I'll put them all together and take a photo lol

I just use plastic containers for my treats, but i don't have many a lot of the time its mainly my syrian who's fed the most treats since one of my robo's hates me being near them and tends to ignore the treats i put in, the other is now happily taking sunflower seeds from my hand and i'm just very paranoid over feeding hammy treats so he tends to get a few extra mealworms.
