Default Walnuts and Robos

Has anybody given Robo's walnuts in their shells? I know they can be a good toy/treat for syrians with a small hole in so they can try and get at the nut inside, but has anybody tried this with robos?

Also, where can you buy walnuts in there shells in the UK? I've only seen them without the shell!

I have, but none of my hamsters seem to have broken into the shell much, normally crack one open into halves and put in for them to pull the nuts out. I got mine from Asda but that was coming up to xmas when they are readily available, unsure for this time of year sorry.

I give my robos walnuts in the shells, but you will need to drill some holes into them. This way they smell the nuts inside, but have to work very hard to get at it. They won't be able to open it up all the way, but can scrape a bit of the nuts once they get the holes big enough. You can crack it in halves later.

You can see there are already some chewed area in the hole:

We tend to crack ours in half for the robos, but thats mostly cause none of them would work enough to get to the middle themselves lol

Thanks all. My wife and I are going shppong today, local market, farm shops, etc. fingers crossed we can find some, if not I'll just order online.

My prediction is I'll probably end up cracking them open, but I'll start with a few small holes an see how they get on.

Found some organic ones in Waitrose!

Didn't have too much luck drilling them, I tended to chip bits of shell off!
