Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
You guys are the only thing helping me through this.
They are getting on now but I feel I have to seperate them before I go to bed as I would hate to wake up to find one hurt or worse....
If I leave the heating on and put some bedding, food, water and perhaps a tunnel in the bath will one of the hams be ok? It's not badly injured, i couldn't even see a cut just a little red mark when I tried and failed to sex them.
I won't be able to get a new cage till Wednesday so it's a 2 night thing, will it matter? I know the 2 which keep fighting, the 3rd seems to get get on with both - a little bit of play fighting but he/she doesn't get involved in any of the chasing etc.
Should I just take 1 back or try to find another home for him?

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
Er... Is there no way you'd be able to manage the hams living separately?
If you can't have more than one cage of hams I'd probably rehome the pair to someone responsible and keep the single to be honest.
I really don't know about the bath... In our bathroom it'd be too cold and we can't change that, but it depends so much on the exact environment that theres not a definite rule really.
Unfortunately ham separations always come down to individual judgement, as do ham environments e.t.c. Its just really unlucky that its all hit you so fast We were prepared for separations long before we faced them.
All I can really say is good luck, you're stuck between a rock and a hard place and I really hope it works out for you and the hams.

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
I can manage 2 cages of hams at a push but If the remaing pair decide they want to be seperate I won't be able to have all 3 hams.
I was just thinking it may be better if I keep the pair in the zoozone 2 which is on its way with the duna as a back up while the 3rd ham finds another loving home.
As it stands I can keep all 3 hams Im just worried about having a similar situation in the future.

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
I think you have said it yourself, you can manage two cages at a push. Hamster keeping shouldn't really be at a push, it should be enjoyable and enriching for both you and the hams. Should you keep the pair and they fall out, you will be at a push. If it were me in your position I would keep the single ham and know I could give him all the attention he needs, then try to rehome the pair to someone that is in a different situation and able to keep both separately should it come to it.
I don't think I'd leave the little one in just the bath to be honest, you don't have anything at all, no bucket, no tub? Washing up bowl, large mixing bowl you could clean and put in the bath to keep him safe should he get out? Do you have a storage box you could empty for the night?

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
I have a washing up bowl which I could dedicate to the ham.
I've mad a huge mistake getting 3. Now I'm just trying to limit the damage done to them.

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
Ok, give it a good clean, and put him in there. Put substrate in, and a nest area, then put a large book over the nest area so he can't use it to climb out, this will also help him feel sheltered. Scatter food and put in a small bowl of water. If you can put a wheel in that he can't climb the back of to escpae, put that in too.
It's not ideal but will have to do, can you get hold of a cage tomorrow for him, or at least a large tub to keep him safely in and give him a little room till the cage arrives? You'll have to keep him in the bath tonight in the bowl in case he gets out. Put a shelter area and a large amount of nesting material in the bath as he'll need to be warm in there, also leave some food and water. Keep the bathroom door firmly shut, and shut off any areas that may have small holes.

Re: 3 new Robo Hamsters
All 3 are getting along fine in the zoozone 2. Eating together, sleeping together etc. I've not seen any fighting either.
Fingers crossed but they seem much happier now.
I'm still looking to re-home at least 1 of them though.
