Chambered nesting house / wheel stand for Syrian
I am super jealous of all the cool stuff you folks across the pond can get at Rodipet. My local Petsmart has a stellar selection of one house big enough for a syrian and it was almost $30 dollars. So I made my own. This was inspired by the Rodipet houses and wheel stands.
Without the roof on. Its open on the bottom. One large chamber near the entrance and two smaller ones on the side. Its a bit hard to tell in the photos but the chambers connect in a 'u' shape, so the two smaller ones should completely dark inside.
Roof on. The blocks on top are scrap wood for keeping the wheel in place. Not pictured but the roof also has simliar blocks on the underside to keep it from sliding off. Since these pictures the roof has been plastikoted as well.
All set up.
It is about 25cm by 30cm and made from 1/4" poplar, oak plywood and left overs from a bendy-bridge mod. Everything is held together with non-toxic pva glue. I had to re-position the front panel once, whiffed and put it on backwards.. hence the glue marks. Since these photos I've sanded off all the excess glue though.
It has a lot of mistakes and I will do things a bit different on the next try but overall I am pretty pleased with it. All in it cost about $16 (CAD) to put together, $4 of which was the pricey imported plastikote. I hope the future resident is pleased with it as well!

What a great looking house. Just what I need for my hamster (syrian).
Well done. Love the idea of the bits of wood on the top to hold the wheel on.

Brilliant! It looks really good and great that you could save so much money making your own too.

Excellent job! I like how you put the wheel on top and have different 'chambers'. Awesome!

I am very impressed with that house. I really like the blocks keeping the wheel stable. Nothing worse than a traveling wheel banging on the side of a cage. Good work.

Looks awesome! Totally neat. We have some Trixie mazes that it reminds me of. They're actually unopened. I planned to use them with litters but haven't yet!
I love that the wheel fits on top. Your little guy is gonna love it.

That's such a nice job. I love that you've made it a wheel stand too with the bendy brigade offcuts. It looks really good
