Here are a few pics of the vents in the back, each hamster's level has 5 vents. Everyone seems to have settled in now and they enjoyed the new layout last night. I have been checking the inside temperature and the ventilation and it seems to be ok, it was a concern when we were building the cage so we did think about it when we put it together. It's still a work in progress so we will make changes if we think it needs more ventilation.

They don`t look too bad actually but if the are against a wall, I would still worry about ventilation. Having glass doors at the front limits your options really expect perhaps looking at the tank sides and adding vents there? But longer vents rather than port-hole vents? x

Its not pushed right up against the wall, its about 5 inches off the wall so that there is good air circulation round the vents plus there is an opening window to the left of the cage so that fresh air is going round the back all the time. The sliding doors at the front are Perspex and we are thinking about adding two more porthole vents to the front of each level. We can't add any in to the wooden sides as the book case is hollow so it would take away too much strength from the structure to risk it.

I had seen a few pictures of these kallax hacks done by people, mainly in Europe and ours seems to have the same level of ventilation as others. I know it needs to be right for my hams and I only want the best for them and I had worried about ventilation but it seems pretty good and the hams seem pleased with the space.

They should be fine pewmouse and I imagine the doors on the front get slid open more than a few times a day, which will also help. You could also run a fan during very warm/muggy weather as the fans cool air will waft towards the wall and possibly help direct air into the vents at the back. x
