Bin Cage Accessories.
As all cages have different levels and tubes and ladders etc. I was thinking what would be good to put in a bin cage?
Izzy is constantly biting the bars and keeping me awake so I am going to buy a plastic box and make a cage for her.
I have seen a 150litre box in £ Stretcher for £17. What would be good items to put in there? How would you make a second floor area to put some items?
I was thinking of looking for wood that 1cm wider than the width of the box and hopefully it should just slide into the box to make a second floor.
What would be the best type of wood to go for?
Thanks

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
We just stacked boxes to make a second floor with ours. It might be easier, and we used pine shelves for our bin cage but as a general rule some other woods are better I think.

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
I haven't got shelves in Squeak's bin cages because one is her burrowing box and the other holds her gigantic flying saucer and water bottle. I'm still trying to figure out why she's put carefresh from the cage in there to...

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
I used jenga glued together to make removable shelves for mine. It was about 1cm bigger then the box and as the sides were angled the shelves wedged into place.

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
Yeah thats what I want to do, just get a plank of wood and wedge it in. I just bought a free standing water bottle, need to get a freestanding wheel.
have you got ladders or something for the hammy to get up? All I can think of is put it low enough so she can climb onto it aswell as also hide underneath it.
I could always look into trying to make some steps for her too.

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
Sometimes I have houses etc underneath so he could climb up onto the shelf from them. Othertimes I have used either bendy logs as a ramp, the trixie climbing wall thing as a ladder and I also made a ramp from lollypop sticks. I have mine about 8 inches off floor so I don't lose any space underneath to put toys etc.

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
if you have a full shelf in the bin, remember to make ventilation holes in the bottom part under the shelf too, otherwise it will get really stuffy for the ham x

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
I was just going to make a small platform where I will put the freestanding water bottle and food bowl on. I am trying to avoid making any holes or putting mesh wiring around the sides in a bid to stop her bar chewing.
I was thinking of making a big ventaltion in the lid and a small platform to put her waterbottle and food on. Should only be about 4" or so from the end. Dont need a big platform.

Re: Bin Cage Accessories.
Will do! If I do decide to use jenga blocks, which is the best glue to use to stick them together?
