So, how's it going here? I'm curious.

Apologies for the delay, an exploded computer held me back for a bit (on the posting anyway!). It is nearly done, just got the lid to finish, which is likely to be next month (after payday) as the aluminium strips are a bit more costly than we were anticipating (over £8 per 1m strip, and we'd need quite a few!). Also got some tiddly stoneware mushrooms to add once the lid is in to my chin-sand area - they are a bit smaller than I thought they'd be, combined with my OH deciding that the desert bedding needed to be formed into a scree slope (I decided not to ask why as he was muttering about degrees, angles and digging possibilities at the time, combined with a few "bloody expensive hamster"'s), so the only place to put them is the sand (not a problem, they'll 'blend in' nicely), but it does mean it'd be high enough for her to climb on the biggest and make good her escape while there is no middle to the lid!

But Nimh is in with divisions, both platforms, substrate and so forth, and appears to be enjoying herself (if a little dazed...it has a lot of new bits compared to her usual just deep megazorb!).

I have photos, but need to work out a way of connecting my camera to my new computer - it lacks a microSD slot (it has an SD slot, but not a microSD one...makes my 5 year old computer look almost modern...except for it being broken due to their not making the parts anymore!). OH reckons we can rip out my card readers and put it in the empty slot in my new computer at the same time he's pulling bits out the back to put in my 2nd monitor...so fingers crossed I'll be able to upload some photos over the weekend.

It looks flipping fabulous though, if I don't say so myself Only one thing I regret...that we don't have the space to put four or more detolfs together to make it bigger But it is far far better than her last cage, so I'll keep telling myself that for now

SD card adaptor? Use the microsd card from whichever takes those and the adaptor bit to make it into an SD card for whichever wants those? It works really easily and the adaptors are pretty common and cheap I think. Your OHs way sounds better but mine works for those of us who just want to use computers rather than wanting to memorise their inner workings too lol

And yeah... You know what I'm like with caging so you have my sympathies on not having the space to make it bigger. You also have my congratulations on having the sense to know that though
We should have space back by the end of the day now though - so expect photos in the next day or two

I don't have an adapter though...and it'd be quicker (as in done this weekend, probably by tomorrow) to just hack into my old computer and move it across. Otherwise I'd have to buy off ebay/amazon, and wait until next week Not to mention this way is free Although, tbh, my printer in the black hole upstairs has a card reader on it - but the thought of going into there to try to find it brings me out in hives

Honestly, it isn't more than unscrewing and re-screwing. The part is just fixed in my old computer in roughly the same place as it will be in my new computer (which has a space where they expect you to put a 2nd CD/DVD drive...and why on earth would I want -TWO- of them (let alone afford a 2nd one)? I'd rather be able to use my camera

The mantra "No cage can compete with the wild" is a good philosophy to live by - yes, the wild has predators, varying food availability, and resource competition...but that is no excuse for not having the biggest cage possible (space/money wise). I always remember the set made by the BBC for robos (wasn't it?) in the studio...now that was a 'cage'

Makes sense I'm glad it'll be sorted soon anyway

And yeah Exactly, the bigger the cage the better Especially if upgrading them gains you space, just as my newest plan does lol

I did tell my OH that for my (future) mice, I want a 4 foot tank as a base, with shelves above...something like this:
A Cool way to keep Pet Mice - YouTube
But with a 4 foot glass tank beneath (accessable) to put digging substrate in, more wheels, and as a 'safety net' should they attempt to leap off (and land comfortably on the nice deep substrate in the tank.

My OH rolled his eyes, sighed, and said, "Yes...but not until we have our own house". Well duh...we'd have to put shelves up, can't do that in rented housing. I count that as a win

But yes...OH is due in the next 30-60 minutes...then he can start work on my computer Soon as that is done, you can have photos of my set up

Can't see vids until my laptop works
It sounds epic though

Good luck with your computer and such and I'll look forward to photos soon. I'm busy rearranging what feels like half the flat (odd that the hamster room alone feels like half the flat...) so they'll be something to look forward to on my next break

It`s okay, but mice love to climb and are best kept in a large barred cage. That wall set-up only gives them a ladder to climb that has wide rungs. Older or frail mice would struggle with that. Solid or meshed ramps are better for grip. Ventilation is very important with mice though so open caging is a lovely idea, but I would want something much bigger and more entertaining for them to play in and more secure. An older mouse might easily lose it`s balance on something un-secured around the edges like this and males who are notorious for falling out could try and escape an attack by trying to get off the end. Those are females in the video.
