Oh she's just too adorable.

She's the same age as Lady May was when I brought her home too and I totally know where you're coming from about the other hamsters in the shop. Every time I've ever bought a hamster from a pet shop, I've wanted to take home the others too.

Thanks Coco, she seems to be enjoying her home so far & I think we'll all be getting to know her better very soon the way she's going!
DrK thanks for correcting my silly mistake, I really hope you can get a little Chinseey one day in the not too distant future, I really do think it would be just the perfect little furry for you, if the time isn't right for a Chinese or even a robo I'm sure another little fluff will find a way to you & your warm heart soon enough.

Little Whisper seems to be settling in really well, she must have spent a good hour or so exploring when I brought her home, found her way up all her little steps & ladders, into one of her hammocks & corner crushes without any problem at all, slightly cautious about everything but not really looking scared, she just does everything in such a sweet, gentle & delicate way!
She was off to bed then & I didn't see her again until today, all was quiet when I got up but after I'd fed Flynt & given him cuddles, fed Mickle & she'd been out for play pen time I heard Whisper having a drink then she had a little run in her wheel before darting about the cage a bit & back into her wheel a few times, I began talking to her then went over to the cage & she was soon happily running in her wheel with me standing by her no problem, I put my hand up to the bars & she had a little sniff then scampered off to the back of the cage so I got the smelliest thing I could think of, mealworm! & she very delicately took it from through the bars, sat for a second as if to eat it then thought better of it & went off to eat in private!
She's gone back to bed now but I can hear little munching noises coming from her ceramic house which she seems to have taken to, her little head poking out of the connecting tube is just too cute for words!
I\ve been tweaking the cage for weeks now but this is her final set up.

What a spoiled little ham! Lucky you
Welcome Whisper!!

I don't want to get boring with daily updates but so far Whisper is continuing totally amaze me with her confidence & progress so one more update for now!
She was quite the early bird yesterday, she comes out about 4-4:30 for a quick snack, I heard a little rustle & looked round to see her discovering the joys of porridge! She's only having the teeniest bit of anything new or fresh at the moment but so far broccoli, courgette, spinach, chicken & porridge have been a bit hit, she's not keen on cucumber which is a surprise.
She was about again for a quick forage again about 5pm then up for real by 7pm & we had a good hour & a half together, partly interacting & partly just letting her do her own thing, she had a very brief intro to her play bin which she was a little nervous about but not too much & was fine when she went back in the cage acting as if nothing at all unusual had happened!

This morning was pee hunt day lol! so I lifted the lid on her house to see a sleepy little face peering out at me, too cute!
No problem getting her out & she was ok in her play bin for the short time it took me to sort her house out, no pee! I think it may all be in her wheel, if it is it will make life a lot easier but I still have a few places to explore yet…..
One thing I really like about the ceramic house is that it has a little lip around the base so you can lift it out without totally destroying the nest & hoard to check underneath.
She's only been using the one compartment & completely stuffed the connecting tube with substrate so I've taken that out for now & when I put her back in the cage she immediately began to investigate the second house compartment, came out to forage collecting up food & making a new stash in there!
She did eventually settle back into the first house & has now made mountains of substrate over both entrances & her little burrowing hole in the cage corner, she's had a very busy morning.
None of that fazed her at all, she was still happy to climb into my hand with or without food, let me lift her out & hold her against me a couple of times with out panicking or jumping & then she had her first little exploratory run in my sleeve, I've so missed having a ham up my sleeve so I think we both enjoyed that!

I'm not so much scatter feeding yet as hiding her food in various places so I can keep a check on what she actually eats but it doesn't take her long to find it!

She's loving her Fuzzbutts & showing off her whiskers!

And having lots of cute moments

She had her first weigh in today & tipped the scales at 35g, teeny girl but a healthy weight for her age I think.
That's enough of a long ramble for today I think!

Updates are always good. I don't ever get bored reading about how cute little hamsters are getting on.

Lady May was 34g at her first weigh in at about the same age as Whisper so I don't think that 35g is too bad. They say that pet shop hamsters are usually a bit smaller than their breeder counterparts and having seen some of the syrians at Othery, that certainly seems to be true although Lord James only weighed 32g at his first weigh in.

She's a photogenic little girl isn't she and the one of her peering out from her hammock is just so cute. I'm going to have to get a couple of those little yellow hideyhole things for my two, they just look so adorable.

Updates on Whisper are not boring at all! Love the last two pix but there is something about her peeping out of her fuzzbutt.....such a pretty face!
