Re: Zephyr's thread
Thanks guys
It was really sweet to hold the nest in my hands with her exploring it & I may have finally found a way to get her to snuggle up with me, much as I love all the manic behaviour, fingers crossed lol!

Re: Zephyr's thread
Zephyr has finally been getting a little braver out of her cage! She's been quite happy to come out on the cage door & climb all over me or inside my shirt for ages now but most of my attempts at getting her some out of cage time in a playpen have been a bit of a failure but she actually seems to enjoy it now, she still races around at top speed though so I only managed to get one shot that was more than just a blur lol!
A few more shots of her in the cage too, one of her favourite places is still her hanging basket
She has a new toy & loves it!
I kind of think of this as her "cave corner" where she has her coconuts & flower pot to dig in & stash some of her favourite treats

Re: Zephyr's thread
Aww well done Zephyr
She looks like she's having great fun in the playpen
And just look at all that enrichment in her cage, she's a very lucky girl
I love the photo of her enjoying her fir cone, Willow and Ebony love these I stuff pine nuts and seeds etc in them and they spend ages digging them all out

Re: Zephyr's thread
I like the pine cone idea. Are pine cones ok to eat then? Just in case Charlie decides to eat it? Also love the hanging basket - is that hemp matting inside? Don't have room for a basket unfortunately. the chain links look big enough not to be much of a hazard too. (I'm paranoid about chains after the hanging ladder fiasco).

Re: Zephyr's thread
Thanks Willow Wisp
I remember seeing cones in your cages, I've been meaning to get some for ages but keep forgetting, they all got one each last week though & even Flynt got excited which is quite something lol! I do the same stuffing little treats in there to find
The cones are fine Serendipity, should be safe for Charlie, might well be worth a try, a good way to make him work for some treats too
That is hemp mat in the basket, I was a bit cautious about it at first but have used it for years now with no problems, ratrations started selling circular pieces to go in sputniks & things which is quite handy. I'm really paranoid about chains too but kept a very close eye on these & both Zephyr & Mickle have been fine with them.

Re: Zephyr's thread
I do like the hanging basket & hemp matt! I wonder if wrapping natural twine through the chains might make it safer? Not that it`s necessary, just throwing the idea out there. Although I`m not sure adding twine might encourage her to climb the chains? Does she do this now cypher? If she does, then I would look at adding thick twine around the chains. If not, then I would leave it.
I so miss my t.shirt hugging Chinese hamster! They are wonderful little hamsters in the right homes. x

Re: Zephyr's thread
She never climbs the chains racinghamster, neither of them do & I have watched them very carefully to see what they do, they have their own safe little routes to get around
I had thought of twine but was worried that could either get caught around little feet or they might just chew it which wouldn't be to good either. It's still an idea though & if I had seen any climbing on the chains I would have swapped it for something else to be safe.
I can imagine how much you must miss your Chinese, I can't even bear to think of life without Zephyr now!
