Default Savic Cambridge ~ Cage Review

The Cambridge is a very popular cage in the UK, so I thought I'd review this one as well.

It's main stockist is Pets At Home, where it retails at £39.99. It measures 62x36x43cm, and comes in a couple of different colours. The wire is navy blue on every cage I've seen, and the bases come in navy blue, bright blue and red. (Please correct me if you've seen any other colours).

With the Cambridge, you get 2 levels, 2 ladders, a small house, a Savic water bottle, (with a metal and a plastic clip), a food bowl and a wheel.

The wheel is far too small for a Syrian though- even one of my youngsters struggles in it. (Just waiting for her Wodent Wheel to arrive).

I really do love this cage though - as you can see, I've bought one for all of my Syrians.

To clean it, you just unclip the barred upper section, and you're left with the plastic base to scrub out. (You can just see the clip in the pic below).

The above picture is of my first Syrian Roxy, (taken over 5 years ago). I still have the same cage, which is now occupied by another Syrian; Gizmo, and before that, Buffy. So it really goes to show how sturdy the Cambridge is. (In the picture of Roxy, I've replaced the wheel with a Rolly Rat Wheel as I didn't know about Wodent Wheels at the time.)

As you can see, I've taken a level each out of the bottom two cages to accommodate a Senior Wodent Wheel. For a Junior Wodent Wheel, you would not need to remove a level. The Junior will fit under or on a level. The Wodent Wheel can then be attached by cable ties, either to the side or top of the cage.

I bought some Leap-N-Ledge perches, (£3.99 from Pets At Home or eBay), upon removing a level, so that the ladder wasn't too steep.

Access to your ham is very easy. There are two doors, one at the top...

...which makes it easy to fill up the food bowl...

And one on the side...

...which makes it easy to get your ham out, as mine all run up to the door when I'm nearby with food. (For some reason the cage doors are the opposite way round on the bright blue based cage).

There is plenty of room for accessories, and I think this cage is great. The only downside is that the levels can be a bit tricky to move around as they're a tight fit, but it's nice to have them in order to rearrange the cage.

This is Fidget's cage...

This is Gizmo's cage...

This is Misty's cage...

And here is Roxy's cage setup, (now Gizmo's cage)...

Hope you like the review- any questions let me know!

Hi, I just got a femal Syrian hamster, Bella, a few days ago and am unhappy with her cage (Rotastak Space Command). I am wondering whether my cat will be able to get into the Cambridge and is it a good size?

This cage is a fab size for a syrian and very roomy. Your cat should not be able to get it it but I would not leave the cat in the same room in case it claws at the bars or knocks the cage over stressing Bella out.

Might as well add my review to this thread!
i have my 5 month old male syrian Porridge in a Savic cambridge and over all i love it
heres mine:

I replaced the ramp with the hammock/ladder and since have added a cushy tunnel.
Although porridge tends to just scale the bars anyway!

This is the wheel i have for him, i'm not sure what its called but its the standard 8 inch one you find in most pet shops
I plan to get a wodent wheel soon though as this wheel makes a real racket

My only problems with it are the doors, i would prefer one big door as i find it hard to scoop him up properly so i normally remove the whole top.
(he is a grumpy man and will complain if i come and grab him. Plus i don't feel its comfortable for him anyway.

Then the ramps, what inoying things to remove and replace they are
But its ok i manage just about.

In conclusion, this is a great cage and its nearly always availible on ebay for bargain prices!
So i plan to connect another cambridge so hes even more spolit

gosh i forgot about my review on here So much has changed since then!

Anyways was wondering how suitable the cambridge is for dwarfs and what species it is suitable for?
I'm assuming defintely not robos, and not chinese since they are slender?

I'm asking because since porridge has started to bite his bars a bit, i may consider moving him into a homemade cage once its finished.
So that would leave an empty cambridge!
But as far as i can tell dwarfs tend to be a bit quieter so may be better in ths cage.
What do you think? am i wrong?

seriously! what a ham.
Luckily porridge has almost completely stopped now, just the occasional nibble.
