I use funnoodles (the long pool noodles, sorry I'm not sure if they have another name) for vertical gaps as they can be cut to size. You just have to watch and make sure you hamster doesn't chew them. For a large gap under a bed a cardboard box cut in two lengthwise then unfolded works in a pinch. The pool noodles also can be used for the gap under doors if they fit, though I recommend towels.
