Moving
hello,
I already posted some questions BEFORE I got my hammies,
now I have 2 hammies & 2 questions:
1)
my parents are divorced so my hammies move every week... The cages stay at one home (I have barred cages with my dad & a glass tank with my mom)
Now my question is this:
my female hamster Fiko doesn't seem to mind when we move but Saiko gets veryyy veryyyyyy exited when we arrive at the 'new' home and idk if she's exited or stressed.
I want the best for my hammies
2)
In the glass tank there's a small opening to each others part of the cage
((it's the detolf ikea tank and i separated it into 2 large cages bc they can't live togheter))
But they sometimes stick their little legs in the opening and the other one licks it? Idk what this means but they both do it... and i watched closely it's not biting they really lick each other! It looks cute ...
does this mean that I can sometimes put them together to play?
It would be so handy if they could get along...
If you want to see these hammies they are on my instagram page: <3
@dwarfhamsterss
and i'm talking about Saiko & Fiko

Re: Moving
If you can block off the hole somehow I would, it may seem cute but you can't watch them all the time & they could bite.
Don't put them together to play, they must be kept separate at all times, if you put them together one or both could be badly hurt or worse so don't risk it.
I would imagine Saiko is stressed rather than excited by the frequent cage change, if you can't avoid moving them then try to keep everything in the cages as familiar as possible & don't over clean, just spot clean as needed & partial cage cleans every few weeks is plenty, that way your ham will feel more secure.

Re: Moving
I agree about keeping them totally separate - it could easily turn to fighting/biting xxx
Ideally they wouldn't be moved each week, although both cages/tanks will be familiar by now hopefully - best not to clean out very often - you can easily go 6 to 8 weeks without a clean out if you just spot clean and even longer as they only spend half the time in each cage - that way it helps it feel familiar. Sorry - just saw Cypher already said that!
If Saiko isn't coping with it well it may be better to leave her in one house and just you come and go - all she would need is someone putting food and water out and you could do the handling/out of cage time when you're there.
