Daffodil keeps trying to get to the mesh roof
She runs back and forth trying to jump up to the mesh roof of her and Seren's perfecto glass tank.
That is the only ventilation that it has and I am wondering if she would prefer to live in a cage with bars and therefore lots of air.
I know moving cages can be stressful for them. I would probably set up the cage to be as a play cage until they became used to it. Also to check on their escape attempts (if any).

Re: Daffodil keeps trying to get to the mesh roof
I don't personally think it has to do with air. She's more likely to be looking for a way to escape. There have been studies conducted that show hamsters are more inclined to chew at air holes as they can sense the fresh air flow, and conclude that there must be another area through said hole.
I've been away for a while so catch me up here, is this a new cage? If so, it could be them trying to escape due to the stress and discomfort of being in an unfamiliar environment

Hey drago, nice to see you back again. No it is the same cage that they came to me in. She has always been keen to get to the top unlike the other two ( one now that Maple lives in another cage).

Re: Daffodil keeps trying to get to the mesh roof
Okay thank you for the clarification! My assumption is that she is attempting to escape. As I mentioned earlier, they often are drawn to areas with open air flow. I think distraction would probably be the best tactic in this situation. As far as I remember, you have them in a fairly spacious cage, and they're robos, so I don't personally feel a cage of a square metre+ is completely necessary. I'd try adding some nice soft bedding under where she's jumping as well to ensure she's not going to get hurt when she falls. My gerbils have a habit of doing the exact same thing!

Looks like you have a determined Houdini in Daffodil.

Re: Daffodil keeps trying to get to the mesh roof
I don't think it's necessarily wanting to escape more just being naturally curious as that's the only place air is coming in with different scents on it & probably just the feel of fresh air too, as long as she can't hurt herself trying to get to it I wouldn't worry.

Re: Daffodil keeps trying to get to the mesh roof
Thanks for your responses. She jumps on her hind legs in the sand bath on the top shelf of the perfecto tank. I am tempted to put a platform so that she can easily sniff the exciting scents without resorting to leaping.
They have substrate up to the first shelf and two wheels, a bendy bridge, a rainbow bridge, a wicker teepee and a sand bath oh and a wooden tunnel with holes in which they really seem to like.
