Thank you! Was a previous attempt to entertain her and stop her chewing. She really seems to like being up high and being nosy! Might have to do some interiors work and make her another maze..somewhere! It doesnt look like she has chewed any more last night, I have piled the substrate really high in the bed area so she cant quite get into the hole the same. She has really destroyed the toy I put near the area where she would normally chew had I not turned the base around (if that makes sense?!). The wheel is due to arrive today, I am excited to put that in (somewhere!) and see how she likes it

I am sure she will love the wheel. You might need to keep blocking that corner then if she destroyed the toy there - or she might end up chewing that corner as well.

excellent advice! really wish I had found this forum page sooner now I think most of the advice given here really could have helped me with Penny as she did exactly the same thing with her Alexander. but I did get one thing right and that was the wheel, dear god she loves her big wheel, handy tip for a large wheel in the Alexander cage place it in between the two platforms rather then lose one platform to fit it in.
once again fantastic advice!

She has been on the wheel a fair amount when I put it in yesterday, she almost seems fed up with it already though! Corner doesn't look any more chewed than it had been!

I hope the wheel does the trick! She does seem to really be loving the maze being downstairs and a bit more upstairs freedom. Will need to keep checking on the hole to make sure she doesnt go back to it. Covering it up with some wood today!

Fingers crossed! Glad she likes the wheel. It looks like you've distracted her out of it for now and she's enjoying the extra things to do. I think the bigger wheel makes a massive difference. If the wheel is too small they stop using it if it causes discomfort and then they're full of pent up energy and want to escape and run. If she can run a lot comfortably now she will hopefully settle down

Did she move her nest into the big house or leave it where it was originally?

Excellent! Worldturns - I'm really sorry I didn't suggest the same things for your Alexander but hadn't seen a photo! Miss Eva's chew damage was near the edge.

serendipity, you didn't get the chance to, I did not find hamster central until late the damage was already done. but you did help me to chose her current home.
penny had chewed a hole nearly as big as that and strangely enough it was in exactly the same place as miss Eva's. I already new that penny had a thing for plastic and I think that was part of the problem as she has now started to chew the wood block that she has had in all her cages. the only plastic in her home now is her wheel. I was whipping it out last night and spotted evidence that she has had a nibble of that now!
