Re: Hamster anxiety- please send help :(
Thank you all for your replies! He has loads of toilet paper which he uses as a blanket, deep substrate (baby loves to burrow), hideouts, handmade toys. His cage is definitely big enough, but we put a lot of toys for him (I already read somewhere that robo hammies get confused when in open space) and has a flying saucer type wheel that he used to run all the time on, but now only uses it for short periods of time..
I try to give him treats, but he's super picky! Used to love his bananas and hamster cookies, now all he wants is pears and pine nuts so he gets plenty of those
As for the cage cleaning routine- we only do it every 2-3 weeks because he absolutely hates being taken out, used to poop in his sand bath so it was super easy to spot clean, but now we've taken it out due to this dry skin issue and he started pooping in his nest and when we take it out he gets really mad, does clicking sounds and looks for a different place for his nest
Serendipity7000, thanks for recommending Erin, I love this girl, and learnt most my hamster knowledge from her blog and channel! Also I'm going to try the camomille, maybe it will calm him a bit. I was thinking of making him camomille tea before, but couldn't find any information if it's safe for him!

Re: Hamster anxiety- please send help :(
I think changing the cage cleaning routine could really help and putting a potty litter tray back - you don't have to put sand in it, you could just put substrate in in - or Finacard make some compressed paper pellet litter for cats that is ok for hamsters too. Haven't tried it myself but it would probably soak up more than substrate. Yes having his nest taken out will stress him! If it's just poops I wouldn't worry too much, and only take part of the nest if its wet, as they tend to poop in their hoards under their nest as emergency food supply! And maybe he'll start pooping in the litter tray again. If he comes back and finds his nest gone and his scents gone he'll probably think a thief has been in and might still be there! So chews to escape!

That's good to keep in mind with plenty of cozy nesting paper with your scent on it.
Oops! Didn't see the 2nd page that he already has lots of toilet paper!
I'll have to do this with my hammies!
