Default Need some advice from the experts

First of all hello as Im a newbie here

I need a little advice re my daughters new hammies behaviour. He is in a rotosak cage (which I am rapidly learning is rubbish ) with a twirly tunnel connecting 2 cages. The problem is that the daft animal keeps filling the tunnel with his wood shavings then cant get through, thus rendering him trapped! He really doesnt appear to be able to get through it at all so tonight I have lifted him into the main cage and shut off the twirly bit.

Should I just give him time and let him work it out? Or would I be better just ditching rotastak hell and geting him a more sensible cage?

hi,

im no expert but i would ditch the cage you have as they are bad news and get a more sensible cage. there are plenty of good cages out there. you could try looking at the cage reviews page for a pointer. basically its best to get the biggest cage you can afford. also the tanks style cages with lots of ground space are very popular. like the ferplast duna multy but they take up quite a lot of space. i personaly love the imac fantasys which can be extended aswell. good luck. x

I agree. A lot of hams do the same thing and clog up their tubes with bedding. Rotostack cages aren't great for the animals space-wise, and are a pain to clean. Any of those fancy tube/modular cages are the same. You could try to make sure he's got food and water in the section he can access for now

The Duna Multy's are a newer cage by Ferplast and have been highly recommended. There are many other options you could check in the cage reviews section. Good luck!

I too would recommend getting rid of the Rotastak. They look cool but really aren't very practical. I'd recommend the Savic Cambridge, or a tank type cage like the Duna Multy. Lots of toy and play space in them
