Default Need some advice from the experts

First of all hello as Im a newbie here

I need a little advice re my daughters new hammies behaviour. He is in a rotosak cage (which I am rapidly learning is rubbish ) with a twirly tunnel connecting 2 cages. The problem is that the daft animal keeps filling the tunnel with his wood shavings then cant get through, thus rendering him trapped! He really doesnt appear to be able to get through it at all so tonight I have lifted him into the main cage and shut off the twirly bit.

Should I just give him time and let him work it out? Or would I be better just ditching rotastak hell and geting him a more sensible cage?
