It's really not a problem. Because my Ted E. was so terrified when he was little, I let him come out to me. I never put my hand in and took him out of his cage. I still do this for him. If I open the door and he doesn't want to come out, it's fine by me. If your little one prefers the tube, go with it. I look at it as respecting their space. Whatever works

Edit: With my dwarf hammies...they were territorial and would bite if I put my hand in their cage. I used heavy suede gardening gloves to get them out. It worked too. I wasn't so worried that I'd get bit and they learned biting didn't do anything for them. I can pick Almond up now without gloves.

that's great progress for Almond!

oh also, while I'm thinking about does anyone know why Gloria would get off her wheel and lay down to sleep in the middle of her cage? :/ but then when she went to bed this morning she got straight into her proper nest? sorry for all the newbie questions xD my parents knew nothing about hammys when I was a kid and there wasn't places like this to come for advice, now that I'm a grown up and I'm in charge, I want to do it right and know everything I can about Gloria

It's called...exhausted! LOL. All my hams do this...run like mad come out and flop flat out. My newest hammy, Nutmeg does this a lot because she never had a wheel until I adopted her. She loves it but gets tired and out she comes. I laugh because then she goes to the corner and stretches out real long and just rests like that. They are funny little furries.

aww that's kinda cute my little baby hammy
I got a pic of her taking a power nap in the corner, I felt so bad for her being out in the open (it was pretty cold last night) that I gave her some bedding to snuggle in
