Question Cleaning Day Tantrums

Today is cage-cleaning day. To be honest, I put it off as long as possible, as Taylor is very territorial and gets very upset about any changes.

I'm glad I cleaned it out, as he'd managed to move a heap of sand (which he pees in, by the way) to the other side of his cage and out it under his nest! Smelly!

Just put Taylor back into his nice clean home and, boy, is he having a strop! Climbed up the bars and chewing vigorously!

As I said, I do this as infrequently as possible, as he tends to throw a wobbly. Does anyone else have this and how do you deal with it? I try spot-cleaning, but it's only effective up to a point.

Default Re: Cleaning Day Tantrums

No great tip I'm affraid except the usual of saving some old nesting and bedding during clean out and mixing it back in with the new stuff. Angel used to go mad after a clean out but she a little less phased nowadays, I guess she got a bit used to it.
She effectively lives between 2 fairly large cages connected by a tube so we clean her out as little as we feel we can get away with. She tends to pee in one place so that helps as we can spot clean it.
We give her many treats and scatter a lot of food all over the cages after the clean out to try and distract her. But other than that no great ideas sorry to say.
