Wow...Buttercup got lost on her first day here. I feel dumb....XD

Well this is what happened when we got Buttercup, our new Teddy bear hamster.

Sooo the day before we got her we washed her cage, (which was in the backyard and forgotten when our hamster, Phillip got lost and was never found ) put Pine Shaving beading in the cage, put a igloo in, then a water bottle and put the cage in my room on my side table. (We havent bought a Wheel yet)
Well last time we got a hamster about a year ago besides Peanut (his name was Phillip) The cage he had had 2 holes where these plastic things were supposed to go if you didnt put a tube in. My sister put them in (with some trouble) and a while later...Phillip got them out and got out and got lost and we never found him (we think he got out when the garage room door was open) so we didnt want to just throw it away and we kept it. Well we used it when we got Buttercup (not a good idea lol) I knew she would get out eventually so we left to get duct tape to put over it in the mean time before a new cage. Until then we put normal tape over it, then I put a towel over the cage and books over the holes and I closed my door (my room is small and the cats were locked out)
Well we were gone longer then I thought and when we came back..suprise, she wasnt in her cage. Augghhh! I looked all over my room and we found her under my bed. We scared her out and since we are both used to dwarfs she was hard for us to hold. Also she was scared since this is her first day and she was supposed to be in her cage for atleast a day-three days. We finally had to lure her into the box that she was in when we bought her. 0_0 that wasnt how it was supposed to go XD Im a bit worried since she fell over a foot and a few inches (is that alright?) XD Well then I read that pine shavings were bad and we bought CritterCARE for her and Peanut (we havent changed peanuts cage yet though) and I had to clean her cage all over again. (by that point we duct taped it a bunch and did some other stuff to make sure it was impossible for her to escape.) I put her in her Petco box and after I came back from washing the cage in the bath...she had chewed a hole in the box and my (gentle) cat was staring at her. xD she didnt get out though.
Okay...I had a stupid day (okay a REALLY stupid day) But now shes safe and sound. Phew! what a stressful first day. i hope she dosent get too stressed out lol

I bought a new cage last week and set it up to what I thought was a good lay out. Dusty went in no problem then I sat with him to see how it suited him. Well, it shows what sort of interior designer I am. He's got another new cage now. My Dusty has never escaped. He just goes back to bed. He's bone idle.

At least your went in the cage before she escaped ! One of my hamster that sadly has passed now chewed through the box in the car and went missing in the car but luckily an hour later we found him

My Rory escaped her old cage about 3/4 times. Luckily I always keep my bedroom door closed. :P You should have seen the state of me the first time she escaped, I got so afraid. By the third time it wasn't really a surprise and she was pretty much always under my bed. :3 She hasn't managed to escape her new cage at least which I'm glad about.

Don't beat yourself up on it. When I got Rory I couldn't get her into her cage before she tried to make a run for it. :P Took both me and my friend a couple of attempts to scoop her up and put her in there. XD
