Re: Syrian Scent Glands
It can be quite normal especially if you have just done a cage clean or maybe you have just been handling her. They are maturing too at that age and the wetness is just extra scent that she will spread around her clean home! You may see her rubbing her sides around the cage and on things to scent them

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Hi,
my hamster is new and I have not learnt his body yet, are these his scent glands?
Sorry the image is poor, he was cleaning himself at the time.
thanks.

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
The wettish patches on his hips look to be the scent glands. There is one on each side. He will groom them and spread his scent over the cage especially if he is new He looks to be a very cute Mink banded hamster

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
I’ve just found small black dots in my Syrian hamster near his hips. I was wondering if this could be scent glands. I can’t attach a picture because I don’t know how to add one from a iPhone camera roll. But I thought someone could give me some insight as the scent gland in Soufflés is a full black ‘spot’ whereas my hamster has around 3 small black dots. He isn’t a year yet (around 9 months) so it could just be the scent gland developing?

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Hello, we have a new male Syrian called Peach who is 7 weeks old today. Since bringing him home on Saturday we’ve noticed his fur on his right hip is increasingly matted down. Is this actually because of the scent gland? Couple of pics coming up

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Peach seems fine in every other way - has settled in well, running on his wheel, drinking, eating, growing. So hoping this odd patch of fur is nothing to be worried about!
