Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
I'm sorry to hear about your precious lad. I prefer my hams to pass in their own nests as long as they're comfy too. Thinking of you both x

I'm sure it's a comfort for him to be in his home with you close by, if it is his time I hope he can pass peacefully.
Thinking of you both.

Thank you ...I so hope I've made the right decision..if he goes on much longer I will have failed him. I had the chance to end his life...and I chose to let him go on. Now I can't as he's about to die...hopefully he'll die quietly tonight...and I do mean hopefully because I care about him and love him...

Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
It's always such a hard decision to make and my heart goes out to you. I made the decision to let Tayleur pass away peacefully recently but she just kept going and seemed uncomfortable. I did end up taking her to the vet for him to help her on her way. I feel it wasn't too late to take her and I tried my best to let her pass at home of her own accord. Spring is such a hard time of year as it takes such a toll on our oldies If he doesn't pass tonight, you could still think about whether he needs assistance at the vet. Tayleur wasn't that bothered to be in a carrier as she was so unwell at that point.
I too hope he passes peacefully tonight in his nest. As Souffle says, a decision made from love is never wrong. Your love for him comes across in your posts x

That's a nice and reassuring thing to say.. I am trying to do the right thing by him. This decision is made from love..he is home. He knows where he is and just doing what he does. He may or may not know he's dying but he's in his bed. Thank you....

Just to let you know I took Pip to the vet's today! Little bugger clung so hard to life. He just would not die!! I gotta be the only person rooting for a hamsters death. Every morning..he won't survive today...every night...he won't survive the night! He got a savage eye infection and pretty much started clawing his eyes out. Enough!! I only saw it clearly this morning as he's been bed ridden.
Anyway..he's dead now. Bless him..I insisted on seeing his body after I killed him..choked for a minute.. vet cuddled me..then got in my car and listened to LBC nattering on about Brexit
Thanks to everyone...pip has crossed rainbow bridge. Vet said she'd put his tiny body in with a bigger animal for cremation..nice
Thank you for your amazing support..probably be back when his big brother is in trouble...squeak!!
THANK YOU XXX

Re: My Chinese dwarf hamster has a red lump?
Oh bless him. He was a real tough character. I'm glad you were able to give him rest when he needed it, and it sounds like you totally made the right decision for him although it's the hardest thing to do.
My hamsters go for group cremation too when they go at the vets. The ashes get scattered on a wild flower meadow which for me is a comforting image.
Run free, sweet Pip xxx
