Default My hamster woke up and started wobbling. :(

My Syrian hamster woke up when I put her dish in her tank and she was wobbling and shrieking.
It's not unusual for her to shriek when she's grumpy when she's woken up suddenly. She's a very talkative.
However, today she was wobbled when she woke up and after about a minute she started walking normally and acting like herself again.
What should I do? I'm very worried about her. Her name is Acorn and she's my whole life.

Here's a video of her.

She needs to see a vet urgently. I'm afraid she looks very unwell.
Her sides look quite swollen and this could be a number of things.
I hope you can get her seen x

oh no...
Does anyone know what could be wrong?
She was acting very normal up until today and after she shook a little, she acted normally.
She was startled awake just before this. Could that be anything? .
I'm out of town and someone is watching her. I feel so sick, my poor girl...

Is there anything you think it could be?
She was acting perfectly fine up until then and then after she acted normal again.
She had just been suddenly woken up, could that affect anything?

Amisbean, I am definitely so sorry to hear that Acorn is not doing well. I can see a lot of swelling and the wobbling/shrieking is definitely extremely concerning. I believe it is essential that you take Acorn to the vet as soon as possible. I will be praying for you both and will be hoping that the vet can help Acorn well again. Good luck and know that we are praying for you and keeping you both in our thoughts. Please let us know how things are going whenever you have a chance. Take care and please take Acorn to the vet.

Her ears are down as well which is a sign of illness. The most common cause of swelling in females any age is a womb infection or pyometra. It is quite a 'creeping' illness and the hamster can appear quite well until suddenly going downhill.
I'm not sure what to suggest if you are not around.
I would ask the pet sitter to wake her and get her up for a full health check. If she still shows symptoms then a vet visit it must be. A scared hamster will normally not wobble like that. They tend to either roll on their backs shrieking and teeth showing or flee very quickly or freeze completly still.

Thank you so much. Now that I look at pyrometra, it seems likely. Is it survivable? Or should I not let her go through the pain of trying to treat it?

Many hamsters survive pyo Amisbean but it does require surgery, medication alone won't cure it, the sooner she gets to the vet the better her chances of coming through this & making a full recovery if it is pyo.
Good luck with her.

Thank you. This makes me feel much better. This is the first time she's ever shown symptoms and I'm going to have her brought into the vet asap. She's already in my vets systems. I feel like I caught this early. She's my entire world. I love her very much and would do anything for her best interests. I apprieciate the responses.
