Smile Handling my hamster

Hello everyone!

So, I've had my 6 month old Malory since January time and I'm still trying to get her to sit in my hand. She comes up to me when I call her name, she is happy sitting next to me in her ball and always follows me around my room. She happily takes treats from my hand and doesn't mind me in her cage when I sort her out. But everytime I try to get her to sit in my hand she always feels the need to bite me. She has got me bleeding 2 times now and I don't know how to get to relax and make her realise that she's safe.

Any tips.

Default Re: Handling my hamster

Hello! I recommend making sure that your hands don't smell like food before handling her, especially if you recently touched hamster food. Hamsters don't have very good eyesight, so it's easy for her to mistake your hand for a treat based off smell.
If this doesn't work and Malory still tries to bite, gently blow in her face as a reprimandment, because hamsters really don't like this. A negative reaction to biting should teach her that it's not okay, and eventually she'll learn to stop. Make sure to praise her if she crawls on your hand and doesn't bite.
I hope all goes well,
