Is my hamster ok?

Hi! I’m just looking for advice for my female Syrian hamster, she is 5/6 months old. She looks quite hunched over which might just be because she is growing?Her ears are staying pinned back and has started biting a lot and does not want to be touched. Apart from the biting she is still acting the same and still has lots of energy and a normal appetite.

If you recently adopted her, then it is normal for her to act skittish. As for the biting, I recommend giving her chew toys, especially ones made of wood. This should (hopefully!) encourage her to chew on inanimate objects instead of biting people. Eventually when she gets used to your scent she might be calmer around you. And also, hamsters stop growing at around six months so her posture might be something else.

I adopted her around 3 months ago and she hasn’t minded being handled at all up until now. She does already have some chew toys but I’m going to buy some more to see if that helps. I’ve also now noticed she seems to go from looking very underweight to suddenly looking big and last night she didn’t want to come out of her enclosure which she usually comes running straight out. how is she right now? It sounds like she has an infection unfortunately, as the main symptoms are laid back ears and being hunched over. Biting can also be a sign of trying to hide illness.
However, if she is still active and eating, its probably nothing or at least nothing too serious. If you have easy access to a vet, its always nice to know there's nothing wrong just to be on the safe side.
My Syrian acted very similarly when she had a UTI but she also had blood spots in her cage and was very lethargic. For now, maybe just make sure to keep a very close eye on her, but being hunched, laid back ears, and biting are signs of pain so if you can get to a vet, that would be the best option.
