Default Here's Chubbs!

Hello,

I tried post some pictures of Chubbs the other night but I couldn't get it to work for. My internet is very slow so hopefully this time it will work. I still don't know whether Chubbs is male or female yet as I wanted him/her to settle in a little while before I try to check. The family I got him from didn't know and said that the hamster was too young to check but I'm fairly certain Chubbs is mostly full grown? They said under a year. Chubbs is a Syrian as far as I know. He came with a 60 gallon aquarium and a bunch of toys, hides, bedding and food. Also came with a wheel which is tiny! From other posts I've read here, I will definitely have to get a bigger one! I also removed some of the hides because the holes were too small for him to use and kind of made me worried! I'm going in tomorrow to purchase some taller platforms, a wheel and a sand bathing area. I think I have a glass vase with a wide mouth that could be suitable for digging area as well! They said that Chubbs has been handled and so far he/she isnt very flighty and was going around to explore right away. Today, Chubbs slept most of the day and has only just woken up to burrow around. I put a lot more bedding than they had in there so Chubbs could dig around and explore. I made a little bit of scrambled egg for Chubbs and some cucumber and carrot peel and gobbled up all but the cucumber! Anyhow, I love my Chubbs and I'm going to spoil the little one rotten!

wow what a gorgeous hamster!
you're definitely right about the wheel, its great that you already know about proper wheel sizing
Its actually extremely easy to tell what gender a syrian hamster is. from the first picture, Chubbs looks like a boy, but it was a little bit too blurry to know for certain. males will have 2 very obvious balls in the back...
He also looks pretty full grown from those pictures.
Hope the 2 of you really bond and have a great time together!
dont tell my dwarves but syrians are by far my favorite hamster breed

Thank you for your reply! I put a few.more pictures up in the health forum earlier and I'm hoping that they will be better in determining whether Chubbs is male or female. I don't mind either way but it's probably important to know anyhow! Chubbs really likes black beans, I've discovered! I brought Chubbs out in a little bucket tonight and climbed right up my arm and was very friendly. Didn't sit calmly but didn't dart off anywhere, just curious. I think Chubbs is going to be great. Tomorrow, I'll pick up some fruit and see what is preferred! Thanks again!!!
