Picking up my new buddy tonight

Hello, this is my first post on the forum. I'm picking up my Syrian hamster tonight. I don't have a lot of info on the hamster as it was meant as a pet for someone else. I'm told the hamster is under a year, a long haired Syrian and has been well handled. They don't know what sex the hamster is. He or she is coming with a 60galoon aquarium tank and quite a few toys, hideouts, a water bottle and a wheel and some chews. I'm sure I'll have many questions once the little hamster settles in. I haven't had a hamster since I was a kid but I have no other pets so this little one will be quite spoiled, I'm sure. I'm planning on adding a sand bath area and another something for some digging. There's quite a bit of bedding as well for burrowing! I'm pretty excited and I will post lots of pictures soon I'm sure and I'll probably need more advice to make the cage as fun and interesting as possible!

Here's Chubbs! I am in love! There's some things I'm going to change with the cage. He needs more bedding to burrow in. I'm going to let him have the next day to settle for a bit. And then add a bunch more. He likes to sleep up high in the plastic thing that came with his cage. Sooooo freaking cute. I'm going to go and see if I can find some higher platforms and a sand bathing box today for him. He seems very relaxed and took a treat from my hand already last night. They had already named him or her Chubbs and I think it suits them so Chubbs they shall remain!!!!

Chubbs also needs a bigger wheel and a couple of the hideouts have holes that I'm fairly sure are too small and worry me they might be for a dwarf hamster so I'm going to get a big wheel and some more hideouts with bigger entrances and exits. The tube thing attached to the round plastic thing he likes to sleep in is also a tight squeeze. Chubbs made it through but I took the tube off for now. I gave him some pieces of cucumber and carrot this morning and Chubbs is in ecstasy! I also put a ton more of the bedding so he can burrow deep down!

Its going great, thanks! Chubbs has been very chill but comes out to investigate and nibble often. Really loves the little coconut half shell thing as a hide. Sleeps in there all day. Chubbs was very happy with the thick layer of bedding and got busy burrowing right away. I still need to go in tomorrow and purchase some more things for him/her, but so far seems very happy and content. I'm waiting to see if someone on the health forum can tell me whether Chubbs is male or female. I'm leaning more towards female but this is the first time I've ever tried to sex a hamster so... Who knows!!!! Thanks again!
