Help beginner please
Hi all sorry as this may seem very obvious however we are new to this I had hamster when I was very young but just got a new one now as an adult because my son was desperate for one. I find it very hard to see where the little one is peeing however I keep seeing a brown/yellow stain every morning next to its wheel could this be it or am I still on the hunt for the missing pee? It seems dry and not like I would expect pee to be. Again sorry if it’s a stupid question would just be great if this is the pee also why would they choose the hard plastic instead of the cage bottom

Re: Help beginner please
I expect it is pee. Young hamsters don't wee very much as they are adapted for living without much fluid. The urine is thick and concentrated in hamsters and doe dry quite like limescale as the urine has lots of crystals in it. I wouldn't worry about it too much if your hammy is eating well and you give some fruit and veg now and again. Check the bottle daily for free flowing and maybe add a small bowl of water in case your hammy prefers that. It's more a worry if they wee a lot as that can mean diabetes.
