Default Male syrian blood in pee

I have a male Syrian hamster that i got 4 weeks ago from pets at home, saw blood in his toilet hide late last night (looked bad) saw him up and eating but not much more than that however i couldn't keep watch all night with working. Checked the same hide again this morning and more blood but not as bad as the night before. I have checked online and saw its more than likely a UTI i can't get him to the vet until tomorrow morning, will he be ok until then? What is the likely cause? It is lack of water? I don't trust the bottle i don't think he can get enough out of it so i also use a tiny bowl and put water in that, could it be I'm not cleaning his cage properly or something i've given him to eat or play with? I am really struggling with this he's a poor wee soul any help i would be grateful!

It does sound urgent and is more likely to be wet tail and bleeding from the bowel. Does the pets at home have a vet surgery on site?
I would really try and find a vet who can see him asap. Check him over for other sources of bleeding like a pulled nail or a cut somewhere. Look at the fur and see if you can locate an area with blood showing.

He's not letting me handle him yet. There has been no more blood since this morning. He's moving about and eating. Regardless taking him to the vet tomorrow as I don't want to mishandle him and make anything worse. I've no idea how I'm going to get him into the carrier. Is wet tail something I've done wrong with cleaning or diet?

Hello

I can't remember the timings but I think pets at home have a "grace" period where they cover vet costs but usually their own in house vet and need to be contacted prior. I think it's maybe the 6 weeks.

However, I wouldn't advise trying to wait around and get them to help if you have access to your vet. Keep your receipts though and could always try with p@h later

Wet tail is more common in young hamsters and usually nothing the owner has done, stress is thought to be a trigger

You can use a pyrex jug and lay in the cage to let them walk into them put a hand or book on top while transporting. Good luck, keep us updated x

I use a Pringles tube empty and wiped out. You need to get him to walk in to it then pop the lid over just for as long as it takes to do the transfer.
Is it possible he's had an injury that caused the blood. Have you seen any diahorrea or wet poo around the cage?

So took him to the vet Wednesday morning. He had a very small cut on his testicul and a worn bit on his tounge . They gave an antibiotic for a urine infection as he was straining when peeing but that could be because the little cut. I managed to pick him up and quickly get him into the carry case. He's not been the same since but hopefully I don't have to take him back and he forgets the ordeal and I'm back to the start with trying to build his trust. I had to make sure he wasn't suffering in anyway

You did the best thing, always a vet trip better safe than sorry. Hopefully he'll recover quickly.
