Exclamation How to tell if a hamster had babies?!

TLDR; How can I tell if my new Hamster had babies without disturbing her??

I got a new Hamster on December 6th and she hasn't been herself since yesterday morning so I want to take her to the vet but it occurred to me she may have had babies. A Syrian Hamsters gestation period lines up extremely close with her change in size and behaviour as of yesterday but I'm concerned it could be the start of an illness or an already progressed illness. I wanted to examine her for enlarged nipples/lactation but she's been extremely reclusive since yesterday morning and even bit me hard enough to make me bleed. How can I tell if there's babies in her enclosure without a risk of disturbing her or causing injuries to any babies so that I can get her to the vet if she's unwell?

Reasons I think she may be unwell: soft stool, sudden weight loss, reclusive/aggressive behaviour and a decrease in physical activity.

Reasons I think she may have has babies: gestational period lines up with weight loss, decrease in activity and change in behaviour.

If she appears unwell then you really do need to check her to see if there are pups or if there is something wrong. New mothers do stay in the nest a lot however they are usually quite well and active and come out for food and drink. I'd put out some food well away from the nest. Something like baby food /porridge / mashed veg that she will need to take time to lap then use a clean metal spoon that has been rubbed in the wee corner to gently open the nest so you can see if anything is in there. Have a small torch handy. This should onlt be done in such cases where you fear for the mothers health. If there is nothing there you need to get her out for health checks looking for signs of discharge etc and swelling. This could be an intestinal issue like wet tail or even a problem birth. A vet will be needed if she seems ill so research that. I hope everything is ok
