Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
These set ups would be much easier if you didn't have to fit a wheel in! I could have left his other tube where it was then.

That's what i meant that he had his pouches full and was looking for his hoard. Did you relocate the hoard together with his house?

Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
I left his hoard in his house but there was more food near the bottom of the cage in other places when I spot cleaned that had been peed on and gone manky so had to remove most of that with the substrate. One was where his house is now sat so would have been under it (but still has his house hoard in tact which wasn't very big). The other was in front of where his house was before so he's probably not quite sure where it was now. But none of that left unfortunately as it had gone manky. Which is why I scattered a lot of food and treats instead.

Does he not use a toilet or sandbath to pee in? I find that Syrians are usually quite good and use toilets. Maybe i've just been lucky with our Syrians because they all use them......unlike the Robos.

Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
Yes he does but he must pee somewhere else as well as there's never as much pee in it as there should be! I suspect he had a toilet underground near his other hoards which is maybe why they went manky. As I said he's a bit of a nomad hamster so far. Maybe to do with his past as well. Not very houseproud so far and no set routine for nesting and toiletting. I'm hoping that will improve now I've moved the house.
Anyway after mentioning him looking for a hoard I decided to stick another handful of food under the substrate approximately where the old one would have been.
I was then getting a bit worried that he seemed to be not coming out of his house tonight. So called him and he popped his head out and was keen to come out again. He discovered the handful of food on the way and nearly didn't come out but the open door won over the handful of food this time.
So he's just as perky as normal and enjoying the wheel in his playpen right now.
Now if that had been Charlie it would have been serious freaking out at even one little thing being moved and I wouldn't have seen him for a week.

Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
I do think he misses the old tube that led from his shelf - a few times he has stood at that end looking wistful and pawing at the side of the wheel. It was a very handy run between his house and shelf up the back of the cage. But I'm sure he'll get used to the roof run instead. Or maybe I'm wrong and it's just the first time he's seen the side of a wheel from that height and is playing and spinning it by pawing on it.

Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
You could take the right hand sputnik out, extend the tube and have it running from his shelf in front of the wheel to the left hand sputnik.

That's an idea. Hadn't thought of that. Then he'd probably miss the sputnik ha ha! I'll see how it goes for a few days.

Re: Raphael (Raffy's) Adventures
The new set up looks really nice. Hope he enjoys his new roof run when he’s had time to explore it. I’ve a similar large gap one side of my Sputnik. Where you have the colourful bridge leading to a shelf now, is the bridge fixed to the side of the cage by screwing through one of the log (steps) or is it supported underneath. Liking the idea of this.
Made me smile that he was deciding food over the door open and door open won.
