Hello Hammy
Hi all, I’m only just getting round to setting up a page for Hammy.
We brought him home on the 2nd Jan, the car journey was eventful, not having had a hamster before I had no idea he could chew through both the P@H boxes he was placed in before we even reached our house, (a journey of about 15mins) he even managed to get himself wedged between the inner box and outer box, my daughter started to panic as he was making quite a lot of noise too, so she emptied my handbag onto the floor, sat him in there and as he escaped the final box, he seemed more settled just sat in the bottom of my handbag. Why I didn’t think to take his new pet carrier I just don’t know, but thank goodness we had his cage set up in advance . He dived in and ran off to hide.
This photo is of Hams in his play pen.

Re: Hello Hammy
We purchased a Savic Hamster Heaven, in hindsight after finding this wonderful forum, I would probably have gone for a cage that’s wide but has more height. I’m still making some changes to his home but here’s a few photos.
He loves his shoe box bed, which now has a bridge tunnel over the front for added privacy and darkness.
His favourite items are the carrot house, his wheel and his foraging tray
It’s not letting me post the photos, I need to figure out how to resize them, then I’ll be back.

Re: Hello Hammy
It is lovely to hear about Hammy. I look forward to seeing photos of him. Chesterspal made a great thread on how to resize and post pictures.

Lol! A hamster travelling inside a handbag! I'm surprised you didn't call him Louis (Vuitton).
You are lucky to have a resourceful daughter.

These are my other cage photos. Hammy was sleeping in the penthouse but he was using the tubes as a toilet and cleaning was tricky. I’d like to make some higher levels for him. I’ve just brought 3 degu shelves and saw another cage on here with a Sputnik and a tube leading into it so may see if I can do something like that?

As I’ve still got one half of my cage floor wt the P@H sawdust, I think I’d like to remove this and cover all the floor wt the Kaytee soft stuff. As it’s only been 4 months, I don’t want to make too many changes, but I may add something new soon. I’ve just got some millet sprays so thinking of adding one of those too. I baked all my new wood items last time. Do you bake or freeze?

Ria, I am completely loving this, I actually think Louis would really suit him, that’s so funny. Kinda wish I hadn’t reluctantly given into the name Hammy, but too late now, lol!

Re: Hello Hammy
Hammy's set up looks lovely!
I freeze food, millet sprays, herbs etc for a week.
I freeze things like cork tunnels as well and put it in one of those reusable vegetable bags from the supermarket. My OH does the cooking and has bad eyesight so has mistaken a bag of Harry Hamster for mixed vegetables before.
You can bake wood at 100C for an hour.

Oh my gosh, I burst out laughing at the thought of having a side of hamster food along with a meal instead of vegetables!
