Question Summer

Hi so this is my first summer with a hamster and i’m wondering how to keep her cool?! I have one of the hottest rooms in my house and the uk’s going through a heatwave. I keep my windows open but only a little at night. I change her water a lot to keep it cold, what else can i do??!

If you use the search bar at the top you'll find lots of good threads over the years with plenty of suggestions. It is really hard and we are all suffering.. even having the doors and windows open at night isn't providing much relief at the moment is it.

Keeping curtains shut, move the cage if you can- I used to put my hamster cage in my hallway at the front of my house which was north facing and thus the coolest. Otherwise, he was in a south facing bedroom

Cold tiles in the cage can help, removing hides with poor ventilation. Cucumber and frozen veg are all options

(1) - Put her cage on the floor during the day as heat rises.
(2) - Keep curtains shut and windows open.
(3) - Use fridge cold water in her bottle and I put ice cubes in a ceramic dish next to her bottle so she can choose.
(4) - I wrap an ice pack up that you would use in a lunch box with a cloth and put on her upper level to lie on.
(5) - Avoid to much out of cage exercise time especially with a ball. I took my 'Bella' outside last night in her ball to the park to give her some cool exercise time and she loved it! and is hitting the front door in her ball every time now to get taken down there, just like she does on my balcony door every time shes in her ball. Shes not satisfied or stops doing it till iv opened the door and if im really ignoring her she rolls over to my feet hits me then goes back and hits the door then back to me etc. Spoilt spoilt madam she really is

I used to put some toy or other things in the freezer for a while and put it in the cage, a ceramic tile works quite well as they can lie down on it. Also frozen veg is good, mine always loved frozen peas in summer but didn’t like them at any other time
