Just caught up on this thread. Aww that pic of him in the kitchen having a little run around
Bene-Bac seems really hard to get hold of at the moment, just ordered some but it's coming from america and is not cheap. i didn't know of any others to use. Also really annoying as my friend in USA says it's really easy to get over there now.
I forgot who asked, stanza maybe, but yes all my hamsters sleeping/awake patterns changed in the winter. lots more sleep and up later.

I have noticed a change in their behaviour in the last few days which is probably seasonal and not down to personality as i first thought.
They get up at the same time and want out for a good run around but then get busy pouching food and as many toilet paper strips as they can get their paws on. Clive emptied an entire hide and looked like a stuffed cushion.
They don't want out a second or third time like they used to. I suppose they are busy sleeping and building their winter nests which reminds me to buy a new winter duvet.

I was sad about Rodney missing the upstairs free roaming space which i know he did at first when he kept looking up the stairs. The additional space resolved that but i can be slow in figuring things out.

Luna, is that the Benebac plus in the tub you ordered?

I think the Dr S is quite good but its 1 drop per 30g of hamster which amounts to 5 drops for Rodney. I added it to a few pellets of science selective and softened them with a few drops of hot water. He ate some of that. I'm going to phone them to ask if it loses its potency when heated to see if i could use them instead of hot water. The Dr S is manufactured not far from where i live.

Photo a more suitable size now and Rodney asked to go back home. He does tire quickly these days but he is an old man.

Rodney wasn't well yesterday and had another bout of diarrhoea. He told me by chucking soiled bedding out of his house. I took him out and put him in the transport box while i cleaned his nest and house. Rodney had a drink, pouched some food and went back to bed for the rest of the evening. All he wanted to do was sleep. He looked a bit bloated which is something i need to keep an eye on.

All was quiet this morning and he didn't come out for his porridge. I waited a bit and then decided to check on him. He was in a very deep sleep and submerged into his nest.

Later on i woke him because i had to go to work overnight and didn't want him to sleep in a damp nest. Glad to say that the diarrhoea had stopped and his nest was dry.

My OH just sent me photos of Rodney up and about but he does look a bit frail. He is up and down but don't think he's in pain. I'm not sure though which worries me a lot.

I'll phone the vet tomorrow to see if there's an alternative to Metacam available. She says that Metacam could aggrivate diarrhoea and advised against it.

I am sorry to hear this. I hope the vet can come up with something other then metcam.

What a tidy boy to chuck out his messy bedding.

Rodney is as tidy as Henry was who lived in the same spot. In fact, Henry's photo is watching over Rodney, maybe he's telling him to keep his place tidy, lol.
