Re: Rodney
I must secure it better which will be a job for tomorrow. The young assistant at Curry's looked at the cable closely then asked if it was a rabbit. I said no, it was a hamster. Good guess though.

Re: Rodney
That is a very good guess! It makes me wonder if they have had people with rabbits bring in cables before.

Re: Rodney
Sofar Rodney hasn't asked to come out and is staying in his house which is out of character and not a good sign.
Last night he wanted out but didn't play for long. I was also wondering if he was in pain. The ears were up and he was running in the wheel but he looked a little hunched which could be down to old age of course.
It can be so hard to tell how they really feel. He doesn't have diarrhoea but his poops are a little soft and smelly again. I'll have a chat with the vet tomorrow when i take Clive. I gave Rodney some Metacam tonight to see if that helps.

Re: Rodney
Hope the metcam gives Rodney a comfortable night, must be so difficult as they grow older to figure out how they are feeling and what may help. You do a great job of working it out and looking after their needs. Wishing Clive all the best with your vet trip tog tomorrow. Hope they can advise on what maybe the cause.

Re: Rodney
Thank you Stanza. Rodney's just been up foraging so the metacam did help. I've been reading on the german hamster forum where they do a lot more testing for internal parasites in hamsters. I came across this home test kit for a parasite called giardia they use over there. I'll see if i can get it because Rodney's symptoms are very similar.
Clive's ailment is a mystery. He's going bald but isn't scratching and hasn't shown any changes in behaviour, habits, food intake etc whatsoever.

Re: Rodney
I too have read on German sites they test for giardia. It is a pity they do not really know about it over here. I hope they both get on well at the vets today.

Re: Rodney
Thanks. I'm only taking Clive today as still undecided how to proceed with Rodney. He's better but not cured. At nearly 27 months old i'm asking myself if i should put him through more upheaval and treatment or let him live out his days with the help of metacam. 3 lots of anti parasite treatments and a 7 day course of antibiotics should have done the trick i think.

Re: Rodney
I can understand that. I hope Clive is okay at the vets and not too stressed.

Re: Rodney
Vet thinks that a 7 day course may not have been enough. She'll read through Rodney's notes and phone me later.

Re: Rodney
I hope a longer course will help.
