Awww, that was so sweet of you Ria! That looks amazing, and the baby corn candles were brilliant. He had to have loved it, that's a hamster's dream right there.

Happy birthday to your little sweetie!

I'm trying to decide whether to get Rodney checked by the vet or not.

He's currently running on the big flying saucer on the floor and fine once he gets going. He's a bit senile and forgets his routine sometimes which must be confusing for an organized hamster like Rodney.

What concerns me is that his poops are quite smelly and have been for a while. They are still shaped but some are a little softer and lighter in colour.

At his age i wouldn't put him through invasive tests but i also wonder if it would be worth the stress of putting him through a course of antibiotics to rule out a bowel infection or would it be better to just keep him on Metacam.

I guess that i need to take him to the vet to get a professional opinion but thought i'd bounce it off people here in case someone has had this issue with an elderly hamster before and would be willing to share the outcome.

Rodney is undergoing treatment for tapeworm as mentioned in my 'Rodney is sick' thread. He's currently in isolation and got used to his own downstairs playground with washable toys only he uses.

Rodney is still active but i suspect there's more going on than the internal parasite. His appetite isn't great but he's not losing weight so must be still eating enough. I give him what he likes. At nearly 26 months old and health issues a purely healthy diet isn't that important,20220826_121503.jpg in my opinion.

That's him just now eating a little Ella's strawberry&raspberry porridge.

My OH texted me concerned about Rodney and told me that this morning Rodney looked at him, then the porridge and went back into his house.
I told my OH that he must have looked rough to have put Rodney off his porridge.

Lol your poor partner!

Rodney is still a beautiful hamster. The care you are giving him is wonderful.

Thanks, i try my best.

Yes, my poor partner. The other day he asked me to get him monkey nuts without shells. I replied that they are much more fun with the shell. He looked at me and said "but i'm not a hamster".

Hahaha! That is so funny! You thought they were for the hamsters and he wanted them for him.

It reminds me of my partner. He sprinkles ground flax seed on his food and this is the same flax seed I give to Orko. I mentioned him eating Orko's flaxseed and he said 'Actually, Orko is eating mine!'. Lol.

Hi Ria, just looking through some of the threads I’ve missed as I’ve been away and was just looking to see how Rodney is doing. Can see from the above he’s still in isolation, does he seem a bit brighter. Good he’s still eating a bit of what he likes.
