I've never heard it called meerkating before, but that's a good name for it.

Smile Re: Rodney

Much to my OH's delight, Rodney comes out of his house when called to eat a little porridge!

He looks so sleepy but cleared his plate, grabbed a strip of toilet paper and went back to bed.

Rodney seems quite a clever little hamster and very receptive.
Didn't take him long to connect my OH's voice with breakfast and mine with out of cage time.

Rodney turned out to be quite a clever hamster who is learning very fast but he does some really daft things sometimes.

I bought the boys a 30cm flying saucer as a floor toy for when they're free roaming.

Rodney run on it then climbed up to the top edge of the saucer, stood on his backlegs and jumped in a froglike fashion up and off towards the wall and promptly sliding down it. Why??

Thank you. He's such an odd looking and endearing little creature.

He was so funny to watch because he got quite mad pulling on the jute string, shredding the cardboard stars and trying his best to get to the top. He kept hopping off his ramp in a right temper just to climb back on again seconds later to try again.

There was half a walnut with a bit of nut, a parsley ring and at the very top a raisin inside a walnut half attached to the string hidden amongst the cardboard. He pretty much destroyed the boredom breaker in his quest to get to the goddies and run off to his house everytime he had found one.
He hides all his treasures in his house and i have no idea what's in there. Must get my OH to keep an eye on him when he free roams to get a sneaky peek.

The bit in the middle to separate the stars is a penne pasta.

Rodney is now nearly as tame as Henry was.

He used to be so wriggly and impatient that i carried him from his cage downstairs to the upstairs free roaming play area in a hamster ball.

Lately he's been coming to his cage door and sits on the carrot house calmly waiting to get lifted out. I carry him upstairs in my hands now, like i used to carry Henry, no wriggling at all.

Once on the floor, he zooms around and plays with the toys for at least an hour but lets me pick him up when he slows down and gets hungry to go back to his cage.

He's such a lightweight and only weighs 155g but seems very healthy with a good appetite.
