I'd try one more course of antibiotics because sometimes it does need more than one but if that doesn't work i'm going to call it a day.

I picked up Rodney's prescription yesterday and started him on another 7 day course of baytril.
The poops aren't too bad at the moment and there's the odd normal one so this course should clear an infection if that's the cause. He's had enough anti parasite treatment to kill anything living in or on him.
I'm keeping his sleeping area clean and changed the substrate and his house yesterday to avoid any bad smells. He's surprisingly blasè about it even though he was chirping for a bit when i put him in the holding box with a treat.

He's not too bad at all but not half as active as he used to be. At 27 months old this may be age related. He came out to play for a bit last night and headed straight for the internet cable which i've encased in kitchen roll tubes.
He didn't want to do much else and i spent some time just carrying him about which he seemed to enjoy.

My partner is going to relocate the internet access point from the hall to his office saying that he sourced a better deal. Interesting timing.....surely can't have anything to do with an innocent little hamster.

Early this morning i simply took the roof off Rodney's house and lifted him out to give him his meds. Wasn't too much of a struggle. Just now i coaxed him out with a piece of banana but he pushed the meds syringe away with both paws so some of it ended up on his fur. He'll lick it off cleaning.

I wonder if he was annoyed with himself for falling into the treat trap.

He pouched the fresh food and went back in his house but left the banana which he'd normally gobble up. I heard a bit of chirping coming from his nest as well.

I think i'll stick to the direct approach in future. Then he knows what is coming instead of me trying to fool him which doesn't feel right. He's an intelligent hamster.

Sounds like a good excuse for the OH to go for an internet cable move . Made me smile too you’ve got it encased with toilet rolls, fab idea! Wish I’d thought of that when I had rabbits.

Lovely photo of Rodney enjoying his veg, hope the extra treatment helps.

I was in the kitchen drawing up his meds so Rodney followed me in of course. He got ever so excited about running around in an area he's not really supposed to be in. I let him roam around in the lounge for a bit and he reappeared from behind the armchair with dusty whiskers. The lounge is pretty safe but i need to dust and hamster check it tomorrow.
Now he's scratching at the kitchen door instead of playing in the playground! Once they know there's more 20220930_191513.jpgto explore they won't give up.
I haven't seen him that lively in a while and he's looking well.
