Treats are in the pantry. It's not that. He knows there's a room on the other side of the door so he wants to go and explore.
Same upstairs. Rory and Clive got into the bedroom before because they tried to follow me in and then sat by the door waiting for me to come out.

That is so clever and brave of them to know there are other rooms and want to explore them. I bet they would love the run of your whole house. Lol.

Tiny dwarf Clarissa did when she escaped. My partner closed her cage door on the first bar instead of the second and she managed to get out. I was at work overnight.

Rodney escaped through the top door which i had closed but he managed to push it enough to squeeze himself out. I cabletied it shut after that. So, yes he did have the run of the lounge and kitchen while i was at work.

Your partner must have been so worried about how he would get Clarissa back. I would be frantic if Orko escaped. He is so tiny and could get anywhere.

Sorry I just have to ask, did they both reappear when treats were left out. How did you get them back in their homes?

My OH left the door on the first bar instead of the second when Hams was smaller but luckily the noise he made scratching around trying to squeeze out alerted the OH that something was up. Surprised he told me actually as I was not happy. Not sure we’d have got Hams back at that point if he did escape.

My OH woke in the morning and saw something move on the floor out of the corner of his eye and thought it was a mouse. When he had a look he saw Clarissa meerkating by his trousers on the floor! He just scooped her up. She was hungry and wanted to go home. He put her back and that's when he realized that he hadn't closed the door properly. We were very very lucky.

With Rodney i came home from work and heard scratching under the big chair in the lounge. I looked underneath the chair and thought, i know these little white legs and called Rodney. He came to me and i put him back then checked his cage and realized that he had managed to push the closed top door enough to get out. I think he slept inside the chair.

One day i came home to find my OH in a flap because he had forgotten to close Edwina's cage and was sure that we had lost her. It was open all night.
I called her and she came out of her nest eventually looking sleepy. Not all hamsters want to escape.

They were probably unhappy to be out once the novelty had worn off.
They have a large free roaming area here and will ask to be put back after a while or sit and wait to get picked up.

Rodney climbs up my front, right up to my face and looks at me these days when he wants to go back.

I've noticed that he gets quite confused and can't find his water but has three sources of water in his cage. Nothing to do with the cage change because the locations are the same. I must place a bottle by the entrance of his house.

It is so lovely Rodney will climb you to ask to go back. What a lovely bond you two have. Hopefully the 3 water sources will mean he can always find water when he feels confused.
